🚲 Fulham Town SNT — Important Update: Increase in Cargo Bike Thefts

Here’s the latest update on bike theft in your area.

Message from Fulham Town Safer Neighbourhood Team

We have recently seen an increase in reports of cargo bikes being stolen across Fulham. Cargo bikes are high-value, distinctive targets, so we want to ensure you have the best advice to keep yours secure.

🔒 How to Secure Your Cargo Bike — Our Top Advice

✅ Use TWO different locks

- Use a heavy-duty Sold Secure Gold-rated D-lock through the main frame, plus a second lock (chain or thick cable) for the wheels
- Thieves are less likely to carry tools for both lock types

✅ Lock to something solid

- Secure the frame AND both wheels to a fixed, immovable object like a proper cycle stand — not railings, trees, or flimsy posts
- Keep the bike tight to the stand — less room for thieves to use tools

✅ At home, still lock it

- Don't leave it unlocked in gardens, sheds, or communal halls — thieves know where to look
- If you have an e-cargo bike, take the battery inside whenever possible

✅ Register & mark it

- Register your bike's frame number on BikeRegister.com or Immobilise.com — it's free and helps us return it to you if recovered
- Security marking acts as a visible deterrent

✅ Keep a record

- Note your frame number, take a photo, and keep a description — essential if it's stolen

📊 What We're Doing

Our team is increasing high-visibility patrols in areas where cargo bikes are regularly parked, speaking to local residents and businesses, and working with delivery operators to raise awareness. We're also reviewing CCTV coverage in hotspot locations.

📞 If Your Bike Is Stolen — Report It!

- Online: met.police.uk/report
- Non-emergency: Call 101
- In an emergency / crime in progress: Call 999
- Always get a crime reference number — you'll need it for insurance

Please also report suspicious behaviour around parked bikes — your eyes and ears on the street really do help us catch those responsible.

Stay safe,

We know that bikes are an important way for people to travel and are at risk of theft because of how expensive they can be. If you have your bike stolen, please report it as soon as possible. Delays in reporting can make it harder for us to investigate and recover stolen property.

If you have a bike, you can help keep it safe by following our ten ways to protect your bike. The most important thing to remember is to double lock your bike and register the frame number.

You can report an incident of bike theft by using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.

Please consider getting involved and contribute to the local priority survey, we may be unaware of issues that you would like us to focus on.  Take a few minutes to securely and privately register and have your say using the button below, this will mean we can focus on things that matter to you.
